Former Texans running back Derrick Ward announced his retirement via Twitter on Tuesday.
Ward played eight seasons, including the last two with the Texans. His contract expired after last season, in which he carried 45 times for 154 yards and two touchdowns playing behind Arian Foster and Ben Tate.
?To all my fans just wanted to let u know its been a great ride the last 9yrs but I?m calling it a career,? Ward tweeted. ?I thank you for believing in me!?
Ward, 31, actually played eight seasons ? five with the New York Giants and one with Tampa Bay before coming to Houston in 2010, when he had 50 carries for 315 yards and four TDs.
After last season, when he became an unrestricted free agent, Ward tweeted that his Texans career was over. The Texans signed veteran Justin Forsett as the third back behind Foster and Tate.
