Qatargas Chief Operating Officer, Commercial & Shipping, Alaa Abu Jbara, has delivered a keynote gala luncheon address Wednesday at the 26th Gastech Conference & Exhibition in London (8-11 October).? In his speech, Mr Abu Jbara outlined the history and achievements of Qatargas and its outlook on the future.
Mr. Abu Jbara said, ?The vision for Qatargas is to be the world?s Premier LNG company. To help attain this status Qatargas is committed to meeting? four key objectives:? to have a talented and diverse workforce which is second to none in the industry;? to maintain and exceed current levels of customer satisfaction; to generate returns for our shareholders and, lastly, to set the standard in safety and environmental awareness in the LNG Industry.?
?Today, we are producing 42 million tonnes per annum (MTA) which positions us currently as the largest LNG supplier in the world,? continued Mr. Abu Jbara. ?Qatargas has supplied 21 LNG importing countries worldwide. Last year we supplied 24% of LNG to Europe and 14% to Asia.? At present, Qatargas is the number one supplier of LNG to Japan, China, the UAE, Kuwait, Mexico, Canada and the United Kingdom.?
Touching on environmental issues, Mr Abu Jbara noted that ?Qatargas has been actively seeking innovative solutions to make our business more environmentally friendly through a number of projects.? One of the many projects Qatargas is developing is MEGI (Main Engine Gas Injection) which will enable the injection of LNG into our ship engines instead of fuel oil. With MEGI, Qatargas can burn LNG and have no Sulphur emissions as well as cutting CO2 emissions by 20% when compared to fuel oil.?
?Another initiative worth mentioning in this connection is the JBOG (Jetty Boil Off Gas) project, which is expected to save approximately 0.6 MTA of LNG or the equivalent energy to power 40,000 homes.?
Mr. Abu Jbara concluded, ?Qatargas is the world?s largest LNG supplier with an outstanding track record of reliability and operational safety. With a flexible portfolio, the largest LNG shipping fleet and access to markets around the world, we will continue to supply our customers and continue to seek new opportunities that will secure their energy needs well into the future.?
