Is pregnancy considered a pre-existing condition? | Travel Insurance ...

Summer Pregnant Woman Overlooking OceanAll travel insurance policies have a list of exclusions that apply to coverage. Pregnancy is an uninsurable pre-existing condition. Travel insurance policies will not cover any medical costs associated with normal, healthy pregnancies or births. Additionally, there is no coverage for cancellation or interruption due to pregnancy.

However, unforeseen complications of pregnancy may be covered in some policies. ?Complications of pregnancy? may be defined as conditions that are distinct from pregnancy but are adversely affected or caused by pregnancy.

Some policies also define what they do not consider complications of pregnancy. For example, Travel Guard does not consider false labor, occasional spotting, physician-prescribed rest during the period of pregnancy, morning sickness, hyperemesis gravidarum, or preeclampsia as complications.

Travelers should be aware of the full list of exclusions in travel insurance certificates.
